Set Apart for Good

Good Morning

Our pastor spoke yesterday from 1 Peter about Fighting the Good Fight.

The first part that struck me was the definition of holy.I’ve talked about this before, but rather than the meaning being moral perfection, it actually translates from the ancient texts as “set apart” or “separate.”I like that better.

It kind of feels like something God has done and not what I have to do.

Does that make sense? He has set you apart and gives you a different destiny.Yes, He will call us to live lives more like Christ, but it flows out of our “set apartness.”It doesn’t start with us getting our act together.

Whew.That is empowering.

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written; ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” 1 Peter 1:13-15

Starting from a place of being set apart by God and empowered by His Spirit, we can live more self-controlled and non-conforming to the world. We are not ignorant any longer and so we are called to live that Spirit-led life.

May your Monday be full of that grace and power
