Always Welcome @ God's Table!

Good morning!

In the confirmation class that our family participated in over the weekend, we discussed the 23rd Psalm. It is a familiar Psalm but in the past our pastor had broken it down in one of his sermons. I found out that our son Lucas does indeed pay attention! haha.

Actually, I knew Lucas paid attention to the sermons from the very beginning. We would leave church when he was about 3 and he would tell me things about what the pastor said or ask me questions. Around 4 years old or so, he told me he wanted to take communion and he knew that our church did first communion in 2nd grade and would need to wait. He said "but I love Jesus!" I remember thinking ....no wonder Jesus always wanted the children all around Him!

During our confirmation class, the leader asked us to give our impression of the 23rd Psalm. Lucas brought up one of the verses where our pastor had gone deeper. I had forgotten.

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." Psalm 23:5

Lucas reminded us that, in those times, the indicator that you were still a welcome guest to stay was that your cup would keep getting refilled. Once the cup stopped getting refilled, you knew it was time to get lost!

God overflows our cup constantly! We are always welcome! He not only is constantly refilling our cup, it is overflowing! How welcome should we all feel to be with Him in all situations and in all our shame or guilt or feelings of anger or whatever!

How comforting it is to know that we are always welcome and He wants to overflow us with His goodness!
