Forged in Fire
Forged in Fire is a TV show about creating weapons and using them in different ways and testing them out to see which ones were made strong enough to withstand challenges.
As I walked and prayed this morning and said my verse out loud: "No weapon forged against me will prevail," something so obvious occurred to me that never had before:
This promise from the Bible does NOT say that weapons won't be forged against me.....only that they won't prevail.
Now, we each can probably identify at least one "weapon" that is being used against us right now....for the people I coach, you may have noticed that food/gluttony/overindulgence has been a "weapon" that is wreaking havoc in your life.
For others, it could be anxiety/fear/the "it's never enough" attitude of climbing a ladder to success....whatever. Pretty much anything that is causing pain and discouragement would fit as a weapon that is being forged against you.
What do we do then, when we realize that the weapon is being used against us and we don't feel like we are prevailing?
I always look to what Jesus did when He was faced with weapons that were forged against Him:
Here are just a few examples:
--He spoke The Word of God:
It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God
It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
......from Matthew 4
--He ignored things that got in the way of His mission:
They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way. Luke 4:29-30
--He called out to the Father but also submitted His will
Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. Luke 22:42
There are many more ways He used that you will find as you read, but we can take this as fuel for any fire we are facing.
What if the very weapon that was forged to be used against us, we could take and use against the enemy?
The Forged in Fire show is a great metaphor. Sometimes the weapons look pretty strong and resilient but when put to the test, they fail. They may pass a test or two but in the end, most still fail.
If we could consider whatever has been used against us as a weapon that we can turn around and use for God's purpose, we would see that God always prevails! Using a weapon that He created with all of the indwelling power and perfection of God means that every "enemy" we face will be defeated!
So, consider the weapon that has been forged against you. How can you use God's Word, Prayer, and Laser Focus to prevail? How can you use the very weapon forged against you to be used FOR you and for God's best?
