Temptation Buster

Giving in to temptation stinks. I’m sure we can all agree on that. In the moment, it “feels” good and we somehow justify it for another moment in time. Until we regret it. Again.

How do you ever get to the point where you can resist temptation?

Well, temptation is not the problem. The problem is desire. If you don’t have the desire, you won’t be tempted.

If someone offered you ashes to eat, you’d not be tempted. You have no desire for it.

That seems pretty logical but how can we change a desire so that we aren’t tempted?

We have to turn our desires over to God. Our desires come from our hearts. If our hearts aren’t right, then we will be tempted and potentially fall.

When we are filling ourselves with God and His promises, His truths, His Word, and we give Him our hearts, His Spirit is the only thing that can truly change us.

I know that itching you feel. I want to “do” something more. Give me a diet. Give me rules to follow. Then I won’t give into temptation.

Unfortunately, that path is a dead end. Desires aren’t really changed..... not for long. In the end, you circle back to where you started.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

He will change your desires as you delight yourself in Him. How do you delight yourself in someone? You get to know them. You find out all you can about them. You talk to them and you listen.

Sure, On Fire Fit has a mission to help people get healthier through eating better and getting our bodies moving. But the foundation has to come from delighting in the Lord. Nothing is more important than that.

It’s not the next fad diet that millions of people latch onto. It’s not the money- maker that hopeful book writers publish to make people lose weight.

But, it is the only way I can follow what God has put on my heart. And that’s more than enough for me.
