Discipline & Action Starts Today!
Wisdom vs Knowledge. What is the difference? Would you rather be wise or have knowledge?
Knowledge is abundant, especially in our current culture. But wisdom? It is scarce. You don’t have to look very far to know that to be true.
So, as I’ve been focusing on ACTION over just learning more, again I have had a convergence of many things from different directions that just fascinates me.
I woke up this morning to prepare lunches, finish up dishes from last night and then start into devotions. During that time, I listened to a random YouTube video that was in my suggestions.
What causes the most successful people in the world to be successful? Discipline, daily habits and hard work.
Now, in my opinion, we have to start with what you consider to be the definition of success. If that means more money to you, then that will be your measure of success. For me, success isn’t financial. It is peace and joy in knowing that God is with me and guiding me, that I am listening for His direction and that I am actually DOING what He asks me to do.
My reading in the Bible today went from the book of Numbers where God was giving very explicit directions to the grumbling Israelites and then into Psalms and Proverbs. I love how God just sends me where I need to go in the Bible.
Psalm 1: 2-3
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law He meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in season
And whose leaf does not wither,
Whatever he does prospers
And then right on into Proverbs 1:1-3a
The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel, for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life….
How does all of this begin to take a hold of us to make us actually use wisdom and not just gain more knowledge? How do we begin to apply what we know and take action?
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Fear is a reverent awe. It is to honor and respect God and to take what He says and apply it to life.
When I begin my prayers for the day, I always imagine myself approaching the throne of the most holy God who has angels singing continually day and night “holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.” Because of Jesus, I get to walk right up to Him and start talking and listening. If that is not the most amazing thing, I don’t know what is. We can not ever take that for granted.
So, if you want to go from the knowing to doing, from laziness to action, I believe it all comes back to what is your daily habit? Mine is God, God and more God. He leads me where I need to go. He gives me peace in my moments and I know He will always guide me in light and not darkness.
Ask the Lord for wisdom and the ability to apply discipline and action and you will have success the way that He desires it for you. There is nothing better than that.
