Casting Cares-Throw 'Em Away!

Good Morning!

Cast your cares on Him, because He cares for you.1 Peter 5:7

To cast means to throw with force when you look up the definition in the dictionary.I’ve heard that before and yet do I do that? Not with much force much of the time!I will sometimes find myself in an anxiety-producing moment or period of time and I throw up a prayer or two but I don’t throw it with force as with the intent to get rid of it or send it to God and really mean it!I think I’ll just work on it some more and so instead of casting the care, I’m really still holding onto it and trying to figure out the problem myself. In some areas it has gotten more obvious to me when I’m still trying to do it myself and then a new area crops up and I realize I’m holding onto it!Currently, I am in a technology mini-mess and I keep casting and then reeling it back in!

Our pastor’s sermon was on Spiritual Warfare yesterday and our focus for this summer has been on the book of 1 Peter. He spoke on this topic yesterday and it fit with so many people I know right now, including myself.

We have to know that we really do have an enemy and he will do anything to stop us from what God wants us to do.As our pastor said, we have to come to a point where the very culture that we live in IS a foreign culture and we are actually missionaries right where we are!Satan is going to use any means to get our focus off of God.

We must Resist and stand firm in the faith that we have ( 1 Peter 5:9).

We must resist the devil because he is like a lion roaming about looking for someone to devour (1 Peter:8) and, as we know, lions look for prey that are weak and vulnerable. When we are disconnected from people or God in our anxiety and worry, we are vulnerable and we are weak.

How do we resist?

Stay humble. This means thinking of yourself less.

Cast your cares. To cast is instantaneous like casting a fishing line. My friend asked if it was ok to pray and stop thinking about a situation she is in. She wondered if that’s how to do it. Oh my goodness, yes, that is how to do it. That is taking that worry and casting it to God. We can all be sure that Satan is going to use anything he can to try to make us think that we need to take it back, but then we are putting more trust in ourselves and not God.

He himself will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10b

You can count on it! Amen!
